"Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life, as by the obstacles which he has overcome."
~ Booker T. Washington
Welcome to The Polio Outreach of Connecticut
The Polio Outreach of Connecticut is a group of polio survivors and our friends and families who exist for the purpose of supporting each other as we struggle with the aftermath of polio. The Polio Outreach of Connecticut is a nonprofit 501(c)3 support group with over 200 members.
Our Mission
The mission of Polio Outreach is to enhance the lives and independence of Connecticut’s polio survivors by promoting education, support, and information, while raising community awareness of polio and post-polio syndrome.
Our Goals
Our objective is to assure people who had polio that "you don't have to go it alone." We are here to provide information, moral support, and shared knowledge related to post-polio.
Our Programs
Our guest speakers address topics such as bracing and orthotics, nutrition, exercise, wheelchairs and scooters, home modifications, and psychological adjustment. Some of our most popular and well-attended meetings are called Sharing and Caring. In these gatherings, we share openly with each other and benefit from interaction with other polio survivors who truly understand our situation. Our organization is open to all polio survivors, their friends and family, and all others who support our goals and objectives.
